Thankful~ {Louisa, Charlottesville, Richmond VA Child and Family Photographer}

A few months ago, I was contacted by a Baltimore photographer. She was searching for a photographer near Charlottesville to take pictures of a family who had recently been through quite a lot in the past 2 years.

Katie and Michael and their son Edward have much to be thankful for. You see, Eddie has had to fight for his life twice and he isn’t  even 2 years old yet!  He was born at 25 weeks and spent 100 days in the NICU, and then had to battle a rare pediatric cancer.

He recently finished chemo and his prognosis sounds excellent!  I so enjoyed meeting this inspiring, sweet family.  I love family sessions, but this one was extra special.  I think that I appreciate life and my kiddos a little more after hearing their story:)

Thanks again Katie, Michael and Eddie for allowing me to capture what I hope and pray is the beginning of a better “normal” for you all!

*And thank you Aunt Amy for giving this gift to them. I hope that these images are ones they will forever look back on to remind them of their blessings!

Big Sister~ {Louisa, Richmond, Charlottesville, Orange Family, Maternity and Newborn Photographer}

Usually I group mini sessions together in one post, but this one deserves it’s own:)

I have known this family probably ever since coming to Louisa. Gabe and my husband both grew up in Louisa, so when Cana was born I asked them to let me practice my very first newborn session on them. I am embarassed to show you those pictures, since I have learned a great deal since then!

Anyway, I was so excited to be asked to do their next newborn session, which will happen in a few months.  They wanted to document this time before they become a family of four and I am so glad they did.

Cana was not very into me and my camera, no game of peek a boo or singing of songs was working with her!  But sneaky me was able to get a few that I think Gabe and Kari will like I hope! I am pretty sure she is going to be a great big sister once she gets used to it!  Every time we said,” kiss the baby”, or “touch Mommy’s belly”, she looked at us like, “Baby, what baby?”  Kids are so funny:)

Fall Mini Sessions~

These are the first round of Fall mini sessions. I still have the Richmond minis to edit and have some more coming up this weekend, but I thought I would give a preview now before  I get too far behind.  We had beautiful weather for the weekend of these sessions, and for that I am soooo grateful:)

A beautiful night~ {Louisa, VA Family Photographer}

When Lynne contacted me for this session, I am pretty sure she booked it last Spring. I asked her if she was sure that she wanted to book that far in advance, but she insisted. She was smart to do so, because I have been super busy this Fall~

I love all of the families that I work with, but I really loved this session.  The kids were so cooperative and so was Dad:)  They are clients of my husband and his kind words spoken about them were right on the money. Very genuine and funny to boot!

Thanks A family for letting me capture your beautiful family~

Double Miracle~ {Richmond, Louisa, Orange, Charlottesville VA Birth Photographer}

Remember this couple?

Well, I have some exciting news to share! They are the proud parents of twins:)

Justin and Belinda have been very honest about the infertility issues they have faced and so it has been a blessing to witness their dream of having children become a reality. Not only did I shoot their maternity photos, but I am going to give their newborn session a try! And as you will see, I decided to attempt birth photography when Belinda was looking for someone to capture their birthday:)

I was hesitant at first, since this was a new experience for me. Of course I have had 4 babies myself, but this was different. When we discussed the details, Belinda and Justin just didn’t want to worry about taking pictures…having waited so long for this day, they wanted to enjoy each and every second!

All of the weeks of waiting for my phone to ring turned into an induced labor, which went very SLOWLY…and finally after 25+ hours, their babies came into the world. Since they were having twins, her delivery had to be in the operating room. They had to get special permission for me to be in there, and while I don’t feel I was able to get as many pictures as I could because of the chaos and number of people in there, I hope what I did capture will make them happy.

So enjoy this glimpse into the birth of Elianna and John Paul…aka Baby A and Baby B:)

*Thank you Justin and Belinda for the opportunity to witness the birth of your dreams coming true. I had to wipe away my tears as that first baby cry was heard in the room. There is nothing like witnessing a miracle…and Belinda you are Super Woman in my book! I feel a special connection with all of you now and can’t wait to see them both grow up!

I usually don’t post mini sessions on my blog, but I thought that this would be a great way to show Alex her pics:)

Double Blessing|Charlottesville, Virginia Maternity Photographer

I love being a Charlottesville maternity photographer! I met Belinda last year.  She had just started her photography business and so we had a lot in common.  She also wanted to ask me about our adoption experience with Maggie. You see, she and her husband Justin have been trying to have children for many years and they were researching their options. Well, adoption is still not out of the picture, but as you can see, they are getting ready to finally complete their dream of having children with not one, but two babies!! I couldn’t be happier for them:) I can’t leave out the fact that their son Herson, who they have been fostering for a few years is also excited to finally be a big brother!

And not only am I doing their newborn session, but they have asked me to capture the birth too….wow!! I feel blessed that they would entrust all of these special moments to me~

I went to Belinda’s facebook page and saw that she had posted these words on an infertility page to inspire other couples dealing with the same struggles as they have faced. She has given me permission to share it here because I am hoping it will touch someone else~

“Up until today I always had a hard time putting it into words, as I can promise you that we had our dark days. We had our moments when everything seemed to be slipping out of control and we couldn’t see the light at the end of any tunnel. BUT today while on our way to our birthing class I heard a song that spoke to me and this version has stuck with me …

I don’t wanna be someone who walks away so easily
I’m here to stay and make the difference that I can make
Our differences they do a lot to teach us how to use
The tools and gifts we got yeah, we got a lot at stake
And in the end, you’re still my friend at least we did intend
For us to work we didn’t break, we didn’t burn
We had to learn how to bend without the world caving in
I had to learn what I’ve got, and what I’m not
And who I am

I won’t give up on us
Even if the skies get rough
I’m giving you all my love
I’m still looking up
Still looking up.

Ladies don’t give up! Don’t give up on who you are! Don’t give up on the reasons why you married that man (or your loved one that walks this journey with you)! Don’t give up HOPE! There is always HOPE and it shines through after lots of tears and love!

Here we are at 30 wks and 4 days, pregnant and expecting twins. We are proof that miracles that do happen!”

Finally~ {Louisa, Virginia Family and Child Photographer}

Laura and I have been talking about this session for a year or two it seems.  Getting all of these boys and their schedules to line up to be home on one night is no small feat.  And with 4 boys myself, I totally understand!

As expected, I had some reluctant men on my hands.  They slowly loosened up and I think I made them feel comfortable enough so I could capture some beautiful images for Mom.  And their cousins joined in at the end for some pics for Grandma:)

Laura, I hope you are as happy as I am with these pictures~

Second go around:) {Lake Anna, Virginia Family Photographer}

Since I did a session last July for this wonderful family, I was thrilled to be called by them again. Their session happened to fall on one of the hottest days of the year, but they were all troopers and we got these pics done in no time:)  And don’t you all just love their colors?

Thanks again guys and I hope to see you next year as there will be another little to add to the group!
